Steve Transeth: “I have yet to see a single state where deregulation has successfully ensured new generation.”
The Oakland Press recently covered energy deregulation, extensively quoting Michigan Jobs and Energy Coalition senior policy director Steve Transeth:
“Our modern society is dependent on our electricity being both affordable and reliable,” he said. “I have yet to see a single state where deregulation has successfully ensured new generation. Nine states who once deregulated have either suspended their efforts, re-regulated or had to amend their statutes. Two states have studied it and chose not to deregulate. Even the poster child for dereg, Illinois, took 10 years to deregulate and in the end had to create a governmental agency to ensure sufficient power supply.
